Psychotherapy Specialities and Approaches

I provide individual psychotherapy for adolescents (age 14+) and adults who are dealing with:

  • navigating life with a chronic illness

  • relationship difficulties with family, friends, and/or significant others

  • improving self-confidence and your relationship with yourself (including topics such as imposter syndrome, perfectionism, prioritizing others’ needs above your own, being self-critical, low self-compassion, low self-confidence, etc.)

  • grief

  • trauma

  • life transitions

  • mild to moderate depression

I also have experience working with anxiety, stress, suicidal ideation, self-harm, and disordered eating.

Through our work together, my clients learn to better understand themself, their emotions and their needs; approach themself with more compassion; have greater capacity to experience a full range of emotions; and take steps forward to savor more of the good stuff in life.

I support clients in being able to do this by learning to turn towards themself with curiosity, acknowledge and honor their strengths, and befriend their nervous system. I am here to deeply listen and hold space as each client embodies their truest self more boldly.

I provide trauma-informed, culture-centered and strengths-based therapy. I believe these perspectives are key for providing an empowering, de-shaming, non-pathologizing therapy experience. I’m not here to tell clients what’s wrong and what they need to fix; I’m here to walk beside clients as they identify what’s working and what’s not.

I am also currently in the Somatic Experiencing Professional Training Program (SE). SE is based on research about the mind-body connection and encouraging increased awareness of one’s full body experience in the moment. This can help individuals to be able to regulate habitual survival responses, develop capacity for self-regulation, and increase resiliency. This training plus an extensive knowledge of polyvagal theory has only strengthened my belief that learning to connect with and understand our nervous system is key to building our capacity to know ourselves and to navigate the difficulties of every day life.

The Loom Therapy welcomes individuals of all races, gender expressions, sexual orientations, ages, sizes, and abilities.

Throughout sessions, my number one goal is for you to feel seen, heard, and supported.

What you can expect from me

While I may have knowledge and training in mental health, you know yourself best. My job is not to tell you the right answers, but rather to help you explore your lived experiences with greater curiosity and compassion so you can find the answers that work for you. We will work together to find the tools to help you stay regulated and connected with yourself and others, while also building the life you want to live.

While I always aim for my office to be a safe space, I also know that safety is co-created. I don’t expect you to automatically trust me because I hold the title “therapist.” I hope that together we can create what feels like a safe space for you to feel supported. I hope our relationship can be a space where there is greater permission to embody your authentic self and to deepen relationships with yourself, me, and others. I’m grateful to be on this journey with you and to grow together in our relationship.

I love dogs.

I have two miniature dachshunds who are my fur babies. They make me laugh and smile no matter what else is happening in my day.

I love to read.

I have always been a big reader. I was that kid who, no matter if we were going on a five minute car ride or going on a road trip, I had to have a book with me. I love all types of fiction and nonfiction books. Some of my recently discovered favorite authors are Ursula K. Le Guin, TJ Klune, N.K. Jemisin, and Octavia Butler.

I love being in the kitchen.

Cooking for family and friends is one of my favorite past times. I’ve enjoyed cooking for a long time and recently began to love baking as well. Cooking Sunday brunch followed by sitting in a recliner and reading with my puppies on my lap is my definition of a perfect weekend day.
